8th International Food Exhibition [IFEX]: The Trendy Awards

Got an invitation from CITEM to cover the 8th IFEX at SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. I was able to check the exhibit on its first day. This is a first section of IFEX article/s I'll make. 
The Trendy Awards Gallery, showcases the complete IFEX Philippines 2010 winners for the past 10 years' holding of the competition, comprising the 36 food products from the different regions in the country.
The competition has 4 major criteria:
  1. Newness of the Idea
  2. Product Innovation
  3. Packaging Design & Innovation
  4. Market Demand
More than the recognizable taste consideration, Trendy Awards puts a premium on a food product's tastefulness, in use, design, & presentation.

Brief History

The Trendy Award competition was jointly initiated by the Center for International Trade Exposition and Mission (CITEM) and Chef Nancy Reyes-Lumen, Editor in Chief of Cook, The Culinary Lifestyle Magazine. Previously known as the Trendiest Philippine Products, this competition was conceptualized  in 2000, after the inception of the Gift Packaging Ideas showcase, one of the highlight segments of the Asian Ethnic Food Festival (AEFF) in 1999.  AEFF is popularly known today as the International Food Exhibition (IFEX) Philippines, the country's premiere showcase of Philippine food and beverages.
The launch of The Trendy Awards 2011 at the 8th edition of IFEX Philippines, happened last May 12 to 14 2011 at SMX Convention Center, Pasay City,  it marks another new decade of product excellence and creativity.
